On July 9, 1996 in fulfilling the vision to plants churches in seven (7) cities in seven (7) strategic locations
within seven (7) years, the JESUS IS LORD CHURCH SURREY was born with 30 families from JIL Vancouver living in Surrey. The
excitement and expectation was high and although these families were attending JIL Vancouver, they became the first fruits
in the fulfillment of the church planting program of JIL BC. After much preparation, the first Sunday service was held in
Days Inn Hotel, Surrey, BC. Within a short time, it experienced growth with newcomers coming from Surrey and immigrants coming
to Canada including migrant workers from Hong Kong and other countries as well.
Then, the need to find a more permanent location
became immediate. After much searching, a leased building was found to become the home of JIL Surrey for its already growing
congregation and families. Since then, the church began to experience more growth that a need to have another service was
conceived. Thus, two services were established to accommodate the incoming people and the overflowing congregation every Sunday.
After one year, the two service format experienced growth as well. A firm resolve to saturate Surrey with another JIL Church
became a viable alternative.
In order to meet the need of a growing church and at the same time to fulfill the church planting vision of JIL BC,
a location for the new JIL Church was finally considered. One year after celebrating its 10th anniversary, JIL Surrey became
two churches: JIL Surrey-Newton and JIL Surrey-Fleetwood. On July 2007, two churches began to have their own Sunday services
with two congregation serving two communities where they are located. Truly, God is at work to those that yield to His will.
The leaders, workers and congregation of these churches were fully supportive of the agenda that God has set for the JIL Church
in Surrey. Thus, growth was inevitable when you have people that are ready to conquer when given an opportunity to do so.
This made JIL Surrey what it is right now. The task is not yet done but just got better. The vision to plant in the remaining
four towns in Surrey (Whalley, Guildford, South Surrey and Cloverdale) remains clear and firmly planted in their hearts. Their
focus is on these towns and even beyond Surrey. Even plans for having another congregation in their location now are being
prepared for in order to fulfill the JIL BC vision.
Moreover, like all other JIL Churches in the Lower Mainland of Vancouver, British
Columbia and in other parts of the world, the JIL Church Surrey-Newton and the JIL Church Surrey-Fleetwood will indeed become
partners in fulfilling the JIL Mission and Vision for the glory of God alone!
