The month of February is perhaps the only month in the year when the Women’s Wear and Jewelry & Accessories sections of malls are crammed with men—men who in normal days are ‘allergic’ to shopping, now going around every shop and every boutique just to find that one perfect gift that would showcase their love for their dear partner.
That is what love does. It makes us do things we normally wouldn’t. Back in the time when I was still courting my wife, I would go every day, from my school in the metropolis to their family canteen in the province—just to see her. I’m sure we all have our own love stories to share. But let me tell you the greatest love story you will ever know: the love story of God and humankind. Created in God’s very own image and living in a garden where all their needs were being met, the first humans Adam and Eve had it all. And yet, they chose to lose it all—at the prompting of the great tempter, Satan. Rational mind might say that God could have extinguished the human race then and there. After all, He is GOD. But no, He sent His own Son, His only Son, JESUS CHRIST, to die the most shameful death on the Cross in the hands of the very people He was trying to save! Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Friends, God didn’t just endure long queues in shopping malls. He purchased us with the very blood of His own Son—even when we left Him, disobeyed Him and hurt Him. Even when we did not deserve His love at all. Love at its best. So this love month, you do not need flowers, chocolates, a romantic date or even a lover to feel the occasion. You only need to hear the whisper of the Greatest Lover saying, “I have loved you with an everlasting love.”
